Feast of Lanterns – Churchill Farm, Buckfastleigh
The Feast of Lanterns is a much-loved Club tradition where members decorate their units with lights and themed displays. It’s a wonderful mix of fun, creativity, and friendly competition — and a perfect way to celebrate the end of the camping season together.
Our own Feast of Lanterns meet at Churchill Farm was just that warm, cheerful, and full of autumn spirit. Although the approach road looked a bit narrow at first, it turned out fine with little traffic and plenty of passing places. On arrival, we were greeted by our friendly stewards, Chris and Trish, and with seven units on site, it made for a lovely, relaxed weekend.
Saturday morning began with our traditional coffee morning, where the theme for this year’s Feast of Lanterns was drawn from a hat. The lucky pick? Autumn Animals and Fruits, a perfect fit for the time of year!
A few of us set off on a walk into Buckfastleigh to hunt for decorations and gather some creative inspiration. Of course, we couldn’t resist stopping off at the Buckfastleigh Inn for a well-earned refreshment before heading back to get decorating.
By evening, the field was glowing with colourful lights and creative displays. We had great fun admiring each other’s displays and voting for the best-decorated unit.
Sunday’s coffee morning rounded off the weekend with a well-deserved award for Chris and Trish, whose beautifully lit-up unit captured the spirit of the FoL perfectly.
