Autumn Vibes, Memorable Meets:

Autumn meets in review — by Anita Foxford

Tavistock Camping and Caravanning Club Site [17th -19th October]

On arrival we were greeted by the friendly stewards, Gill and Trevor, who were kept busy raising the barrier for new arrivals. It immediately felt like a welcoming and secure site.

The campsite itself offered a lovely dog-walking area around the perimeter, perfect for stretching the legs. The heated shower and toilet block was very much appreciated, especially with the cooler temperatures, and there was also a handy outdoor, sheltered washing-up area.

On Saturday we set off on the recommended walk into Tavistock. With autumn at its peak, it was a beautiful and colourful stroll, though a bit of a challenge for Harley the puppy with sheep and ponies freely roaming along the way. It was wonderful to soak up all the sights and joys of the season. After enjoying a few refreshments in Tavistock, we opted to return by bus, which turned out to be a pleasant little tour and excellent value at just £1.50 per person each way.

Sadly, the rain put paid to the planned coffee morning on Sunday, but overall it’s a lovely site in a great location and one we’d happily visit again.

Watergate Bay - Halloween Meet [31st October to 2nd November]

This year’s joint meet with Cornwall DA was hosted by Tamar DA and proved to be a fantastic weekend all round.

Friday night gave everyone the chance to meet informally in the hall, catching up with friends and enjoying a relaxed start to the meet.

On Saturday, the Tamar DA committee ran a great programme of games in the hall, keeping everyone entertained throughout the day. The evening brought a splash of colour and creativity, with many members dressing up and an impressive display of carved pumpkins filling the hall. The effort put in by everyone was fantastic. Live entertainment rounded off the night and was enjoyed by all.

The caravans were also beautifully decorated for the trick-and-treaters, adding to the fun and festive feel of the evening.

Sunday morning concluded the weekend with a coffee morning, prize giving, and the traditional Cornwall DA vs Tamar DA challenge – a fitting end to a memorable joint meet.

Newnham Park - Bonfire and Firework Meet [7th – 9th November]

Wow — that seemed to be the word of the weekend.

Saturday morning greeted us with a soft mist over the park. I took a peaceful walk, enjoying the sunrise filtering through the trees and the vibrant autumnal colors shining through the foliage. It was a moment of quiet magic.

As the day unfolded, we set up the bonfire and prepared the food and BBQs for the evening ahead. The night was spectacular — an amazing firework display lit up the sky, while the bonfire kept everyone toasty. Those who stayed for the weekend gathered around the warmth, unwinding after a busy day and sharing in the simple joy of each other’s company.

Sunday morning offered another glorious start. I went on my usual morning walk with the dog and spotted deer roaming freely. Leaves danced from the trees in the gentle breeze, creating a serene and beautiful scene — a perfect ending to a wonderful weekend.
