That’s right.  We are not attending Wooda this year but instead holding our 2012 Tamar DA Birthday Meet at Meadow Lakes Holiday Park, Hewas Water, St.Austell, Cornwall, PL26 7JG between the 4th and 7th May 2012.

If you’ve never been to Meadow Lakes, you’ve really missed out.  It is a beautiful and picturesque camping park located just outside of St.Austell.  Can you see details about the via via their website www.meadow-lakes.co.uk.

The weekend will comprise of the usual fun, games and entertainment.  Further details will be posted here and available in the April edition of your ‘Camping Chatter’.

Cornwall DA invite you to the South West Region Summer Meet to be held over the middle weekend of a two week THS at Higher Golla, Perranporth.

The THS will run from 6^th -20^th July with the Summer Meet taking place on the weekend of 13^th-15^th July so you can enjoy a few days holiday in Cornwall and attend the Summer Meet, without having to change pitch.

The site is in a central location on a bus route, only two miles from the famous surfing beach of Perranporth.  There is a golf  course within three miles,  and many attractions such as the Maritime Museum at Falmouth, and the Eden Project are within easy reach .

Yet again, our New Year meet at Bude Holiday Park was a great success.  Julie and Andy Martin put on a long weekend of great entertainment and despite the rather wet weather everyone had a great time.

Many of you will remember that quiet little boy Chris Slade who would turn up to every event with his Mum, Dad & sister Hannah and was always reluctant to join in, or push himself to the front, well obviously he has changed as he has just become the National Mighty Mini Champion for 2011 .

Twenty two year old Chris took the title at Rockingham Raceway a few weekends ago in only his 2nd year of motorsport following his 8th place finish in the Championship in his first year and since then he has been invited to have his car on display for Top Gear Live at the NEC Birmingham and at the Excel Arena in London.

The 2011 season started back in April with the first race at Oulton Park where Chris finished 2nd and set a new lap record. Top ten finishes followed at Snetterton, Castle Combe and Brands Hatch which were televised on Sky Motors TV. His first win came at Cadwell Park at the end of June in front of 10,000 spectators when the Mighty Minis were a support race for the European Drift Championship and from then on he could not stop winning. After four straight wins at circuits all over the country the Championship came down to the final event at Rockingham Raceway at Corby, Leicestershire with Chris leading the championship by 15 points on 236 points with 32 points going for a win. The Circuit which is based on the famous American banked oval circuits with an infield section of short straights and tight turns and the qualifying session was as always very important to set a good grid position and Chris did what was required by put his car in pole position for the race with a quick last lap leaving is championship rivals trailing in 7^th,8^th & 9^th places. Chris controlled the race from the front and eventually brought his car home in 3rd place which was enough to take the honours.

Recently Chris was asked to take the car to the Castle Combe race circuit just off the M4 near Bristol to take part in a Mini action day to raise money for charity, he took spectators out in the car for a 3 lap sprint and helped to raise £2500.00 although he did bring one young lady back in tears although he insists that his hands never lift the wheel.

His winning car will be on display in the hotel lobby for the BRSCC British Race and Sport car club dinner in February at Stratford on Avon and should be at the NEC Autosport show in January.

Chris is keeping his options open for the 2012 season but is looking to move up to a more powerful car if sponsorship and the opportunity becomes available and more importantly New Year at Bude.

Our 2011 joint Halloween Meet took place at a site Tamar DA have not visited for some time.  The weekend started in glorious sunshine, with a good turn out of attendees.  The weather took a little turn for the worse, but this certainly did not dent everyone’s enthusiasm, especially after a few glasses of wine were tasted on the Saturday evening.

The DA booked at excellent female entertainer for the Saturday evening, after fun and games in the afternoon in the hall.  The children also enjoyed a morning of pumpkin carving on Saturday – even though the mums and dads seemingly did a great deal of the work!

Sadly due to the lack of stewards and the potential of very low numbers, your DA has with regret needed to cancel the weekend meet at Woodovis.  Please help our your fellow members and pass the word along….

If you’ve never attended a Members Meet, come along and join in.  All members are welcome and you can hear from your Committee and other members on club activities and important put you views and desires to the collective and ensure your vote counts!

The meeting starts at 2pm.  There is a full weekend camping at Barn Park in case you fancy camping throughout the weekend – but if you can only make the members meeting, please come along.

At the Members Meet we will be making a special plea for a DA Treasurer.  Karl Field is stepping down at the end of this DA year and thus we desperately need someone to step forward and volunteer to help out in this very important role.  Don’t worry if you do not have previous experience – come and have a chat with Karl or any of the Committee members and we can explain fully what’s involved.  Please help your DA!
