2009 Charity Presentation at The Citadel

The formal presentation of our 2009/10 charity donation to the ‘Help for Heroes’ fund took place this Monday 29th March 2010 at The Citadel Plymouth.

Here is a message from our outgoing Charity Officer Marilyn Bradley on the events of the evening…

“We were all made very welcome into the officers mess and greeted with a drinks reception.  There were some other young officers there who took the time to speak with our members and show them around, then they joined the presentation party for the photo shoot.  A photographer from thr Herald also took pictures, I believe this will be in Wednesdays paper.
Major Steve Fraser said a few words of thanks and stressed how grateful they are for the support for the Memorial fund and how much it will mean to the families of the dead and injured.  Major Paul Greene was also their with his wife and he added his thanks and explained about the progress of the construction, planning approval should be imminent and the build will be completed very quickly.   Details of the inauguration will be sent to our Secretary when known.”

Some photos from the evening can be found here with an explanation of each photo below.  Enjoy…

  • #2 is the TDA group making the cheque presentation.
  • #3 is Major Steve Fraser MBE RA explaining the Memorial details to our group with a few other Royal Artillery (Army) Commando officers present.
  • #4 is a painting on the wall of the Officers mess where the presentation was held, depicting their troops in action in Afghanistan.
  • #6 is their Memorial display boards showing the Commando Dagger which will be mounted on top of the memorial. This will be manufactured from the metal of empty shell cases fired in Afghanistan.
  • #9 is an artists impression CGI of the finished memorial on the mount in front of the Citadel gate.
  • #11 is their memorial display with our cheque in front of it.

It is intended that they will hold their own Remembrance service around the new Memorial in November this year.

If you want any more info please ring or see you at Easter.
