Charity Weekend 2009 Report

Charity weekend at the Butchers Arms July 4th 2009….

With the prospect of a showery weekend and about 20 units expected all the plans had been made and we arrived and set up our unit and the large marquee.

The units arrived and set up, some in the main field and some in the top paddock.(avoiding the natural hazards!!).

26 units in all made it although the last one arrived late on Saturday, a marvellous turnout as the weather was indeed showery.

Friday evening there was musical entertainment in the pub and many enjoyed this along with some excellent food and some lubrication.

Saturday morning we decided to erect the 2nd marquee and good job too.

A coffee morning was followed by the planned events that included a fortune teller? That was not needed to confirm that those who sat in the stocks were going to get very wet!!

A mysterious Treasure island appeared and a great search went underway to try to find the treasure.

A volunteer pancake maker appeared too and delicious pancakes were consumed by many, (more stock of lemon juice was sent out for) and many more went down the same way.

As we all sat digesting these, the afternoon cream teas appeared, but very quickly disappeared, along with some delicious cakes too.

Before we knew it some were lighting barbeques for the communal feast in the marquee. Some visited the local hostelry for food again, with the necessary lubrication.

The evening settled down to some varied quiz things and a Chinese raffle which most found very amusing.

In the middle of all this a cheese and wine evening took place and most agreed all they had done all day was what they were good at-EAT!

Heavy showers were frequent but this did not deter anyone especially those who camped in their tents.

Sunday came with a coffee morning, prize giving and raffle, along with sincere thanks to all who had supported the event and had a good time.

Marilyn would like to thank everyone for their generosity as she raised over £300 for the D.A. Charity.
